The usefulness of this device consists in its ability to increase the velocity, and consequently the volume of air passing over the cooling coils. The increased velocity of air causes it to cover a greater area, and spread toward the center of room further. The apron or screen used before the coils should be constructed of any moderately good non-conductor. Separating the warm and cold currents of air increases the draft, on the same prin- ciple that a fire burning in a flue creates a greater suction or a more rapid displacement of air than when burning in the open.
