The Parachute of Fauste Veranzio, 1617, (1887). The inventor Fauste Veranzio (Faust Vrancic) developed a parachute after studying Leonardo da Vinci's sketches of one. He tested it by jumping from a tower in Venice. Published in "History of Balloons" by Gaston Tissandier, Paris, 1887.
