Hamilton (1731 - 1803) was a British diplomat, archaeologist, antiquarian and vulcanologist and the husband of Emma, Lady Hamilton, who was the mistress of Royal Navy hero Admiral Horatio Nelson. Hamilton spent a short period as an MP before becoming British Ambassador to The Two Sicilies from 1764 - 1800, studied Mounts Etna and Vesuvius, was a Fellow of the Royal Society and a recipient of the Copley Medal. Engraving by Henry Hudson, based on a painting by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723 - 1792).
