His father, Abner Augustus Grififing,was a descendant of Jasper Grififing, a Welshman UNIVERSiriES AND THEIR SONS 455 who came to Long Island about 1675. His mother,Abbie Cliandler Stetson, was descended fromCornet Stetson, who settled in Plymouth county,Massachusetts, about 1635.
