Castell Dinas Brân, Llangollen. Great ditch, ruins of south wall, hall and tower.

Castell Dinas Bran, also known as Crow Fort, Dinas Brân became a stronghold of Eliseg who ruled Powys mid C8th. Built on the site of an Iron Age hillfort, the standing remains date from a medieval castle built by the Lords of Powys around 1270, who set fire to the wooden stuctures in 1276 and left the ruin to be partially repaired and garrisoned by the English forces of Edward I. In Celtic Mythology Brân is the Celtic god/chieftain Bran the Blessed who is supposed to have lived a few hundred years before King Arthur in whose time the site was reputed to be the Castle of the Grail guarded by the Fisher King.
