The needle beams are of white oak, 5 ins. wideand 5 ins. deep at the ends and 6 ins. deep at the center,and each timber is strengthened by a f-in. round truss-rod. The cars are strengthened by longitudinal truss-rods i£ins. in diameter, two in number, with ends upset to i-| about 6 ins. long for threads.
