Together with Yi Hwang (Toegye; 1502 - 1571), Yi Yi is remembered as the most important intellectual figure of Joseon dynasty. He appears on current Korean banknotes of 5 000 Won. Yi Hwang appears on 1 000 Won banknotes. Moreover, he is the son of another intellectual and artistic figure: Shin-Sa-Im-Dang (1504 - 1551), who appears in highest 50 000 Won banknotes.
