GOZZOLI, Benozeo, the son of a doublet maker,was born at Florence in 1420. He followed FraAngelico to Rome, and having acted in 1447 ashis assistant at Orvieto, he in 1449 applied, but un-successfully, for permission to finish Fra Atigelicosfrescoes in the cathedral of that city. In the sameyear he went to Montefalco, and there painted inthe church of San Fortunato a Virgin and Child,and a St. Thomas receiving the Girdle; thelast-named is now in the Museum of St. JohnLateran at Borne.
