The bush-ing is carried in the steel eye at the end of the the wear is on the bushing and pin. Up to the pres-ent time the wear has been negligible, compared with alife of less than three months in the case of the ordi-nary cold-rolled steel pin without a bushing. Thiscombination also is noiseless. A Ys-in. cotter keyholeis provided near the bottom of the pin to prevent turn-ing against a boss on the under side of the bracket cast-ing. The camp is located 2 miles from the citylimits on an interurban line and the only new trackconstruction consisted in converting the 2 miles ofsingle-track work into double-track construction, andthe building of about 4000 ft. of new double track, most of it on government property. This new track-age lies about equidistant between one of the powerplants of the railway and a permanent substation, andit was found that a portable substation would be moreeconomical than permanent construction, particularlyin view of the uncertainty as to how long the campmight be in use. The company already had a three-phase, 13,200-volttra
