Signboard at Asakusa prohibiting vehicular traffic from 1000-2200H

The signboard in the photo is a Japanese Kanji script for dismounting from the horse, , one is prohibited from riding a horse beyond the signboard. Of course this should not be taken literally and the Japanese do not ride horses as their daily mode of transport today. This signboard is a play between history and modernity. In the past, one can probably expect people riding to Asakusa on their horses as a mode of transport. Now, that has been replaced by cars.
