Clown snake eel. Head of a clown (or brownsaddled) snake eel (Ophichthus bonaparti) emerging from its hole. This eel is camouflaged on the sand and rocks amongst which it lives. It burrows into the sand tail-first to hide itself from predators. It is a carnivore, preying mainly on other fish. It may reach a length of over a metre. Photographed off Sabah, Malaysia.
