A rare 1720's share certificate issued by King George I of England for producing oil from SUNFLOWER SEEDS, patent under the Great Seal of on certificate are Arthur Bunyan (Deceased) and Broughton Wright. First cultivated by American native Indians, by 1716 the plant came to attention in Britain and an English patent was granted for squeezing oil from sunflower seeds. Soon sunflowers became popular as a cultivated plant in British gardens.
