The peculiar nature of the antennae ought easily to distinguish this species from all other Indian EMPiDiE. Subfamily TACHYDROMIINiE. Head with eyes more variable than in the other subfamilies, generally separated above the antennae in both sexes; below they may be contiguous or separated ; when contiguous below, the frontal facets may or may not be larger than the others ; in some genera the eyes microscopically pubescent. Proboscis short, sometimes curved ; palpi 1-jointed. Antennae 3-jointed, with a styliform arista of one or two joints. Thorax often nearly as broad as long; metapleura bare, or with very short hairs. Legs of varying lengths; sometimes the fore femora or four anterior femora thickened, in which case the four anterior legs are raptorial; middle tibiae sometimes with a spine. Wings with axillary lobe more or less developed ; 3rd and 4th longitudinal veins simple ; three posterior cells; no discal cell; lower branch of 5th vein present or absent; basal cells rather large, subequal.
