Air pollution experiment. Plant enclosures during an experiment into the effects of elevated levels of carbon dioxide on plant growth. Sensors and gas supply equipment are by each enclosure. Raised levels of carbon dioxide are thought to be the result of increased burning of fossil fuels since the industrial revolution. The levels are expected to rise further in the future. Research like this has indicated that plants bud earlier, are in leaf longer, and lose their leaves later, when carbon dioxide levels are increased. This effect has to be considered when modelling present and future climate change. This research site is part of UMBS (University of Michigan Biological Station), USA.
