The waterfront at Halfmoon Bay on Stewart Island (Rakiura to give it its Maori name). Oban is the main settlement on the island. It has the ferry terminal where tourists arrive after making the one hour crossing over the Foveaux Strait from the mainland port of Bluff. Oban is an important supply route for the island. 85% of the island has National Park protected status. The flora and fauna attracts many visitors each year.
