17-flat-building in the Hansaviertel, Berlin
After the war most of Berlin was devastated. In addition to that West -Berlin (including the Hansaviertel) was surrounded by was no longer the capital of Germany. In this situation the Senat of Berlin decided to rebuild the Hansa-area in order provide new housing and present the modern style of living and architecture in large exhibition (Interbau 1957). The most famous architects from all over the world were invited to take part. One oft them was the Swiss Architect Otto Senn - a scholar of Karl Moser, Richard Neutra, Frank Lloyd among others. He designed his building as a pentagonal central structure placed on a recessed pedestal. Since the top floor is also recessed, the impression is that of a structure rotated on its axis. In the apartments arranged radially, with four on each floor, the rooms are placed around the central building comprises 16 flats. Today it's surrounded by lots of tree, bushes and flowers. It's a lovely place to live - close to the Tiergarten and the very center of the city.
