Spiral galaxy NGC 7814, optical image. This galaxy is seen edge-on. The bright bulge of the galactic nucleus is crossed by thin dark band that is the gas and dust of the galactic plane. NGC 7814 is about 80,000 light years across and contains about 100 billion stars. It lies some 30 million light years distant in the constellation Pegasus.
