James Solan, from Lexington, , mans a .50 caliber rifle on the bridge wing of San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS Anchorage (LPD 23) during a simulated strait transit exercise. Anchorage is underway completing composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX), a final pre-deployment exercise which certifies the combined Essex Amphibious Ready Group and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s abilities to conduct military operations at sea and project power ashore during their upcoming deployment in summer of 2018.
