The Cariboo-Chilcotin region stretches from the Pacific Coast to the Cariboo Mountains east of Quesnel Lake. It is a sparsely settled area with rugged terrain and vast wilderness areas of north temperate rain forest. This image shows fresh snow and the fall colors on the hills above the Mitchell River, and the the morning mists. The Mitchell River hosts a major sockeye salmon run that attracts bears, wolves and eagles to its banks.
