It contains Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, 1,053 British, Canadian, New Zealander and South African. On January 22, 1944, the Allies tried to break the Gustav Line: they landed behind the German lines, facing the enemy's strong opposition. The location of the WWII British War Cemetery of Anzio was chosen shortly afterwards, the graves date back to the days that followed the landing.
