An unusual method of extorting confessions from criminals, after a 16th century drawing by Theodorus de Bry.
An unusual method of extorting confessions from criminals, after a 16th century drawing by Theodorus de Bry. The scene shows the criminal sitting in the scales of injustice whilst a priest leans over the precipice ready to receive his confession. Presumably if he is thought to be lying he is tipped out of the scales. From The Strand Magazine published 1897.
