Light micrograph of the peripheral cortex of a lymph node stained with a silver technique for reticular fibres. With this technique, only the reticular fibres (black) and the collagen fibres (dark brown) are stained, while the cells do not stain. The darkest area corresponds to the lymph node capsule. Immediately below, the space with few reticular fibres is the subcapsular or marginal sinus through which the lymph enters the node. More deeply, is the network of reticular tissue, in whose spaces the lymphoid cells of the cortex are situated. Magnification: x360 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
