But the largest, and, ac-cording to Loudon, unquestionably the handsomest cedar in Enjx-land, is the magnificent specimen at Si/0)i House, the seat of theDuke of Northumberland. This tree is 72 feet high, the diameterof its head 117 feet, and of the trunk 8 feet. We give a miniatureenafravino- of this tree (Fig. 1) from theArboretum Britarmi-cum, and also of thetree at Foxley, plant-ed by Sir UvedalePrice, which is 50feet high, with atrunk measuring 4feet in diameter. We madea hasty sketch of this tree in 1845, of which the annexed engravingis a miniature. (Fig. 2.) It is about 50 feet high, and has, welearn, been planted over 40 years. It is a striking and beautifultree, but has as yet by no means attained the grandeur and dignitywhich a few more years will give it. Still, it is a very fine tree, and21 322 TREES.
