Tlie next ballot was—Perley, 2; West, 1; andKingsland, 1. On the twenty-eighth ballot Elisha Kingsland was elected bythree votes to one for Perley. Elisha Kingsland was a member of Hose Company No. 32, afterwardsEngine Company No. 26, of which his brother, Oliver H. Kingsland, wasthe last foreman. Mr. Kingsland became foreman of his company, andafterwards was assistant engineer lor over eleven years. He was the firstchief of the Paid Fire Department, and is now an emplo3ee of the Board of \Underwriters. Mr. Kingsland had an accident at a fire in Forsyth Streetin 1854, and narrowly escaped serious injury.
