This splendid variety of Lettuce originally came from Germany, where it is a great favorite. It is very early, and being hardy will stand considerable cold, damp weather. It can be planted out of doors or imder glass, and in either case will produce fine, solid heads much sooner than any other variety. The heads are very attractive, outer leaves being yeUowish- green, tinged with brown, while inside it is richest golden-yeUow. It is somewhat similar in appear- ance to Boston Market, but matures earUer and is lighter green in color, with less of the brownish rint. Pkt., 10 cts.; oz.,30cts.; i lb., 85 cts. Grand Rapids Forcing. (See cut.) For forcing in the greenhouse this variety is thoroughly de- pendable. It matures quickly and is of a large size, handsome appearance; crisp and tender. Forms a loose cluster of leaves which are bright green and crimped at the edge. It is one of the best varieties for growing in the greenhouse, and extensively used for that purpose, both by com- mercial growers and for home use. Pkt., 10 cts.; oz., 30 cts.; Jib., 85 cts. Hittinger's Belmont Forcing. An improve- ment on the Boston Market, larger in size, crisp, tender and attractive. It is a very dependable variety for growing in the greenhouse.
