Shaffer and Columbian belong to the purple cane family and are somewhat alike inbeing extra strong, vigorous growers, producing dull red or purple berries. The fruit isexcellent for home use, but it does not sell so well as the bright red fruit of Marlboroand Cuthbert. Marlboro and Cuthbert are two of the best red raspberries yet introduced.
