The Road to Aosta (15 M.; diligence daily in 3 hrs.; rail-way in progress) ascends the broad valley of the Dora, shaded, withwalnuts, chestnuts, and vines. The wine of (4M.) Chambave(l62ir)is one of the best in Piedmont. A height here commands a magni-ficent view, to the E., of several of the snow-peaks of Monte Rosa :(r.) the Zwillinge (Castor and Pollux), (1.) the Matterhorn and Mat-terjoch; and to the S., Mt. Emilius. In the background to the the three-peaked Ruitor (p. 311). On the left, at the entrance of the valley of Fenis, stands thepicturesque Chdteau of Fenis. The poor village
