The line between this layer and the corium is less wavy than usual, dueto poor development of the papillae of the corium. The corium consists of dense connective tissuecontaining few nuclei. Leukoplakia is a somewhat ill-defined disease, similar to kraurosis, butdiffering from it in that it appears in the form of whitish plaques scatteredover the vulvar area rather than a general atrophic process involving the entirevulva. The histologic changes in leukoplakia are more superficial than those ofkraurosis, being located in the epidermis. In kraurosis they are situated in thedermis (Taussig). Leukoplakia may be the seat of a primary cancer of the vulva. Pagets disease occurs rarely in the vulva and may serve as a point of originfor cancer.
