Trade for Memorial day was rather flight, as there were quantities of otit- ^' door flowers to be had. The number of peonies on the market was a surprise, as the first part of the week it looked as though there would be few. It turned out that there were wagon loads of them, offered at any price that could be obtained. It shows that the number of plants has been greatly increased. Stock of all kinds was plentiful and it was a hard matter to clean up in the way we like to do on a day like that. Carnations were quite plentiful, but the quality was away below what it was a week or so ago. The extremely hot weather had its effect on all flowers, but it showed especially on sweet peas and carnations. Boses were abundant and a large part of them, especially Killarney, popped open and were hard to move at any price. The plant trade has been heavy and orders that came in late last week had to lie over to this week. It will take at least ten days to get caught up. The sale of-geraniums has been heavy, as has that of salvias. A great many streets have their garden and flower clubs, which have been doing good work. It looks as though it will be a permanent thing for them to get to- gether and plan the work for spring planting. J. M. GLEN COVE, N. Y.
