Sev-eral years engineering work for theSouthern Pacific Company and theCalifornia Powder Works followed,and he then entered the EngineeringBureau of the Public Works Department, acting as inspector of theconstruction of fireboats and other apparatus. He was appointedSuperintendent of Fire Engines March 1, 1912. He is a married man,with two Fire Department 83
