THE TERMINAL AT THE BELMONT PARK RACE TRACK FOR THE ACCOMMODATION OF THE LONG ISLAND ELECTRIC TRAINS way line from Flatbush Avenue out to East New York, andeven beyond as far as Atkins Avenue, a distance of 5^4 agreement with the city, dated May 18, 1897, the railroadcompany undertook to remove its tracks from the surface ofAtlantic Avenue and to operate passenger trains on the line bya motive power not requiring combustion. This requirementobviously pointed to electric traction, and the planning of asatisfactory train service in this short section has resulted in the south and north shores of the island, but also quite heavylocal business from Flatbush Avenue out to Jamaica, and veryheavy excursion business to Rockaway Beach and three dif-ferent race tracks, the Metropolitan track near SpringfieldJunction, and those located at Aqueduct and at Belmont Park.
