There is something relentlessly charming about bite-size Mahébourg (my-boor), where it's all about simple pleasures: an interesting museum, a buzzing market, spicy street food, good budget lodgings, a pretty backdrop and beautiful beaches to the north and south. We still hear talk of ambitious plans to transform Mahébourg's waterfront into a mammoth complex like Le Caudan in Port Louis, but it will be years before this takes shape.
