What is the proper size of main flow and branch flows, number and size of coils, I should like to use l^-inch and 2-inch pipe. What is the largest capacity of hot water boiler that can be successfully carried with my chimney. What is the best method of ventilation for one slope, top or bottom! On which side should either be placed? C. R. D.—Ind. There was no mention of the temper- ature to be maintained in the green- house, but presumably 60 degrees will be satisfactory. The main flow pipe, to supply the radiation for the house 21x40 feet, should be 3-inch. After carrying it to a point directly under the ridge of the house, extend it to the west end of the house on a level two or three feet below the ridge. Eun 2%-inch branch pipes in each direction and take off 2-inch feed pipes to supply coils of four 1%- inch returns under each of the benches in the middle of the house. Then re- duce the branch feed pipes to 2-inch and extend them to connect with coils of four l^^-inch pipes under each of the side benches. Run the return coils to the east end of the house and connect them with the main return pipe lead- ing to the boiler. This should be 3-inch after the last coil has been connected. The mains for the later addition should also be 3-inch pipes and it will require sixteen IVo-inch returns in the coils. If both houses are to be heated from one main flow pipe,
