A boy carries a frilly pink ornament for the top of a wedding cake through the dusty streets of old Kabul Afghanistan. After the fall of the Taliban weddings have surged in Afghanistan and often mix Afghan and western below the ancient fort of Bala Hissar and the old city walls this part of Kabul and others were almost completely destroyed in the mid 1990's (1992-1996) in factional fighting between rival mujahideen commanders for control of the capital after the Soviet's withdrawal. Further destruction was inflicted when the Taliban took Kabul in 1996 and when the USA- backed Northern Alliance re-took Kabul in 2001.
