Captain Kramer was appointed a second lieutenantof the Second U. S. Colored Cavalry December 7, 1865,and was stationed at Brazos Santiago, Texas. He wasmustered out February 12, 1866. He then receivedhis appointment as second lieutenant, Sixth U. , to date from April 27, 1866; was promotedfirst lieutenant December 12, 1866, and captain August1, 1S74. He was stationed in Texas until 1870, when he availedhimself of a leave of absence from September, 1870, toFebruary, 1871, during part of which time he was withthe German army in the Franco-Prussian War. He was engaged in the following affairs with the Indians(with his troop): At Ash Creek, Arizona Territory, May7, 1880; also at Chevalons Fork of the Little ColoradoRiver, Arizona Territory, the campaign against the Siouxof 1891 and 1892, and various others. Captain Kramer received special commendation fromBrevet Major-General Grierson, commanding the Districtof New Mexico, in his special report on the removal ofthe intruders from
