Wheel-lock Petronel c. 1630 - A petrol was a type of long gun made with a wheel ignition. Despite its length, the petrol was fired at the wrist like a pistol and not at the shoulder like a rifle. They were generally made in pairs in the early 1600s. Civilian versions were richly decorated for aristocratic clients.
