In 187 3 he withdrew from the active practiceof law, and, with the exception of a tour in Europe,in 1875 has since led a life of retirement at his homein Ann Arbor. In 1877 the University of Michiganconferred upon him the degree of LL. D. Formany years he was one of the Regents of MichiganUniversity, and in the spring of 1879 was appointedTappan Professor of Law in the same. Mr. Felch isthe oldest surviving member of the Legislature fromMonroe Co., the oldest and only surviving Bank Com-missioner of the State, the oldest surviving AuditorGeneral of the State, the oldest surviving Governor ofthe State, the oldest surviving Judge of the SupremeCourt of Michigan, and the oldest surviving UnitedStates Senator from the State of Michigan. 4^.
