The first week of September was much better as far as the weather was concerned, as the last week of August business was very quiet and the great heat was blamed for it. Now there appears nothing but just lack of de- nxand for the little doing at this time. There are oceans of flowers, every line •being full, but returns are, or must be, heartrending to the growers if one can judge by the accumulations that are seen ready for the street men towards the latter part of the week. There is a little demand from the stores lucky enough to get funeral work, but this is about all. NOTES. The event of the week was the open- ing of the Snellenberg flower and plant ? department. There wer6 stirring times here, a bargian counter rush all day long. The space given to this de- partment is about 30x20 with a large 30 foot window on 12th street, corner of Girard. It is the thoroughfare or aisle to and from Chestnut street. There is a good stock of plants, Ken- tias, Boston and Scott ferns in various sizes, crotons, rubbers and dracaenas. Everything is plainly priced, plants that are generally retailed at $ in the stcres being marked, "Value $, price 75 cents," and so on through the list. Three inch ferns, nice bushy plants, are priced five cents each. "No charge for filling ferneries if plants are bought ; .$ per hundred is the whi)lesale price for such ferns in this market.
