Hos 79. INSIGNIA OF CHIEF OF POLICE. POLICE DEPARTMENT AN ACT FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT AND REGULATION OF THE POLICE OF THE CITYOF NEW YORK. Passed May 7, 1844, by a two third vote. The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly,do enact as follows: Article I—Of Police. §3. The Corporation, by ordinance, shall divide the city into two ormore Police Districts, in each of which districts shall be established aPolice Court and office. §4. The business of the Police Courts, in two of said police districts,shall be conducted by the Police Courts now established by law, in and forsaid city; and if the city shall be divided into more than two police dis-tricts, the Police Court which shall be established for such additional dis- 80 trict. shall possess all the powers, and be subject to all the laws relating tothe police courts now established in and for said city.
