Al Zubarah Fort, Qatar
This photo shows the Al Zubarah Fort located in the Madinat ash Shamal region in the north-west of Qatar. The fort was built in 1938 primarily as a police and military base from which to fight raiders from Bahrain and other nearby locations. The Madinat ash Shamal community has about 3,000 residents and is the proposed location for a 45,000+ stadium that Qatar is planning to build in connection with the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
