A second portrait of this keenpatron of the arts, in profile, with the head to the right,was made by Diirer in 1523. Diirer had met the Cardinalat the Augsburg Diet of 1518. The features of hisold patron, Frederick the Wise of Saxony, whose por-trait he had also painted, were perpetuated in 1524 oncopper, with a noteworthy Latin inscription. Fredericksportrait is the finest of the series, perhaps because handledby Diirer with greater sympathy than the rest, andis obviously true to life. It was followed in 1526 bythe portrait of his friend Willibald Pirckheimer, and inthe same year by the profile head
