These cute lizards, one of two species only found in Sardinia and Corsica inhabit scrub and rocky areas. The female lays a clutch of between six and twelve eggs. They are fast and timid but their charming disposition whilst basking in the sun allows for a relatively close appreciation. There is some evidence that once common, some populations have decreased in a few areas. Perhaps this is due to predators or over collection by herptile enthusiasts.
