Who does not thrill when he glimpses the first little Crocus, daring to open its cup of color above the still slumbering sod? Who can stand unmoved beside a bed of gorgeous Tulips, or escape the fairy spell of dainty Daffodils? Surely they are just as much a necessity to our happiness and well-being as food and shelter. The world would be a sorry place, indeed, without the flowers. Beckert^s Bulbs for Fall Planting Autumn is the season of harvest; it is also the season of preparation for the spring to come. If we are to enjoy the first rare flowers of spring, we must prepare the ground for them and plant the bulbs before winter puts an icy seal upon the earth. In this booklet we offer our friends the best that expert growers in distant lands have pro- duced, in bulbs for fall planting and winter forcing. Years of experience have gone into the selection of varieties which can be relied upon to give the greatest pleasure and satisfaction under varying conditions. Moreover, we feel that these years of study and tests enable us to offer something more than just seeds and bulbs—a real garden service to our customers. It has been a doubly pleasant task to prepare our Fall Catalogue this year for the reason that we are able to pass on to our customers a very considerable reduction in the cost of growing the bulbs —a reduction which brings bulb prices back to normal pre-war levels.
