Thesevalves are pure white andare about an inch and a half in breadth. In Fig. 99, we have the picture of a small speci-men of the Black Chiton, Katherina tunicata, Sby.,Kath-e-ri-na tu-ni-ca-ta, which wasnamed in honor of Lady KatharineDouglass, who first sent a specimen to theBritish Museum. The outline is ellipti-cal, and the small white valves are nearlycovered by the thick black mantle. Thissingular arrangement of the parts is sostriking that it cannot be mistaken forany othe
