It will be rememberedthat the 72 acres which formed the site of thePark were the property of the Governors ofDulwich College, and were handed over bythem to the Metropolitan Board of Works, andthat it was laid out and is kept up at the expenseo the successors of that body, the London CountyCouncil. An advantage of the site was, that itlay in meadows well planted with great Oaks,which seem indigenous to the stiff strong soil,and which now impart to this new site a nobleaspect, such as only old parks, as a rule, canboast of.
