Anechoic tile. These polyurethane tiles were developed as an acoustic absorber for sonar frequency water tanks. The tiles are very absorbant and minimise echoes (reflection) of water-borne sound above a frequency of 20 kilohertz. These tiles are used to provide the conditions needed for underwater acoustic tests.
