Certain forms of irritative lesion produce partial alteration ofsensation, which is usually spoken of as paraesthesia (9. «.). Trophicchanges in the skin often occur. Destructive lesions of toe posterior rootsalso produce total anaesthesia. It the lesion is on the peripheral side oftin- ganglion, there are in addition trophic changes in the part supplied. Pig. Thewords in italics indicate the corresponding cortical centres. (Gowees.) If the lesion lies between the ganglion and the spinal cord, the anaesthesiais total, but trophic changes do not occur. Lesion of the ganglion itselfusually produces anaesthesia and trophic changes, if complete ; if partial, the are variable. In some cases herpes zoster along the courseof the nerve has been observed. Irritative lesions of the posterior rootsproduce fulgurant pains in the limbs, or a feeling of constriction in thetrunk. They may also be t
