Foxworthy has described this species under the nameof S. longipetala but the following additional informationmay be helpful:—the leaves vary in size and shape througha much wider range than that described; there may be asmany as 26 pairs of main nerves; the petioles are normallyover cm. long; the flowers may be almost sessile; thestamens vary in number (in the flowers I have examined)from 20 to 41; and the cilia on the appendages from 1 to Gardens Bulletin, Gaxd. The fruits, of which I have seen only one really maturecollection ( 9508), may be described as foliows:— mm. long, stellate-puberulous; calyx lobes swollen andwoody at the base, closely appressed to one another,enclosing rather less than half of the nut, puberulous; threelarge wings linear-spathulate, cm. X cm.,about 8-nerved; two small wings linear, about cm. cm., 3 to 5-nerved; nut about cm. X cm.,sericeous-tawny tomentose, terminated by a tomentose beakwhich is mm. long. This species was first described by Blanco fromPhilippine material in 1837 under the name of Mocaneraguiso. This name he altered to Dipterocarpus guiso insubsequent editions of his Flora de Filipinas. Under thenames Euphoria malaanonan and Euphoria or NepheliumBlanco described sterile, galled collections of the same (1880) considered this to be Shorearobusta Gsertn.—an
