The sun beams through a tree just glancing the deer LONDON, ENGLAND INCREDIBLE IMAGES show two stags going antler to antler in the morning glow during rutting season. Images show the stags in the golden hour light looking majestic before they clash with each other as hormones flare during the breeding season. The red deer is one of the largest deer species. A male red deer is called a stag or hart, and a female is called a hind. The male (stag) red deer is typically 175 to 250 cm (69 to 98 in) long from the nose to the base of the tail and typically weighs 160 to 240 kg (350 to 530 lb); the female (hind) is 160 to 210 cm (63 to 83 in) long and often weighs 120 to 170 kg (260 to 370 lb). Only the stags have antlers, which start growing in the spring and are shed each year, usually at the end of winter. Antlers typically measure 71 cm (28 in) in total length and weigh 1 kg ( lb), although large ones can grow to 115 cm (45 in) and weigh 5 kg (11 lb) Antlers, which are made of bone, can grow at a rate of cm (1 in) a day. These feisty stags were captured by photographer Talvinder Chohan (40) in Richmond Park London, England, using a Canon EOS 5D camera. ?During the rut, stags are charged with testosterone, so any images should be taken at distance with a telephoto lens,? said Talvinder. ?I try to arrive before sunrise and track the deer via their calls which start around dawn. It was lovely to be able to hear the sound of the wild somewhere that is so urban. ?It was a chance that I came upon a stag against the rising sun, and I had to react quickly to make the images as the animals seldom stand still. ?There?s a spiritual connection between us and nature and at the first light this is amplified. ?Initially it felt like I had more of the same, but upon reviewing at home on the big screen I knew I had captured some special moments. ?These images in particular have drawn a lot of praise and I hope the images can help maintain the connection we have
