David Thomas Ansted (1814-1880), English geologist. Ansted was born in london, and educated at Jesus College, Cambridge. He graduated in 1836, and four years later became professor of geology at KingÕs College London. His work centered on the practical application of geology to mining, then in very great demand due to the industrialisation of Britain. His work also helped identify new water supplies. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1844, also a Fellow of the Geological Society of London.
